Maui College to offer Online Aquaponics Entrepreneurship; Commercial Aquaponics Science Courses

Aquaponics business, entrepreneurship and introduction to commercial aquaponics science courses begin Jan. 17, 2017 for backyard, small-scale and commercial entrepreneurs ready to enhance their understanding and learn more about the applications of business and the aquaponics science side of growing food in a soil-less aquatic environment with fish.

Important basic aspects of managing and marketing a business are covered, including financial planning, operations, personnel, record keeping, budgeting, problem solving and more.

Vacation Leave During the Holidays

The Governor will not be decreeing additional administrative leave for executive branch employees this holiday season.  The University of Hawaii will also not decree administrative leave this season.  The President supports the message from DHRD and encourages the Chancellors to do the best to support employees’ requests while maintaining any critical operations.

Dr. Carl Hefner – Contributing Author on New Anthropology Book

Anthropology Book: At home and in the field: ethnographic encounters in Asia and the Pacific Islands

At home and in the field: ethnographic encounters in Asia and the Pacific Islands is meeting with great success as a text for teaching at various colleges and universities across the nation, including UHM and UH West Oahu.

Dr. Guido Pigliasco, Dr. Forrest Young and Dr. Carl Hefner of KCC have contributed to this University of Hawaii Press volume on doing anthropological fieldwork, known as Ethnography within the scholarly field of Anthropology.

Guido and Forrest served as co-editors and Carl Hefner has written the lead article entitled: Tempting the Nāga: Local Knowledge and Mysteries of the Mekong. Hefner’s article is based on field research conducted when he led a group of 10 university students on a research trip down the Mekong River and through 6 Asian countries (China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) bordering the Mekong River as it flows to the South China Sea in Southeast Asia.

At home and in the field: ethnographic encounters in Asia and the Pacific Islands is a fascinating volume of wide ranging anthropological ethnographic experiences published by the University of Hawaii Press.
