Applications Open for 2019 student Kai Yama program: Environmental Science Collaboration with Japan

The Kai Yama Program represents an educational, cultural, and intellectual exchange from the oceans of Hawai‘i (Kai) to the mountains of Japan (Yama). The Kai Yama project is a collaborative partnership between University of Hawaii, Kapi‘olani Community College, Oahu, HI and Kansai University, Takatsuki Campus in Osaka, Japan.

Over the year-long program, students from both countries will communicate collaboratively as they investigate both local and global environmental issues. During two 10-day country exchanges, students will actively participate in the community issue through the lens of place-based and culture-based active learning.

The objective of this international student exchange is to engage future leaders by connecting ecology and environmental science to local community conservation issues. Collaborative online technologies will allow participants to build relationships, identify commonalities, and generate new solutions to ecological issues.

Hawai‘i Information Portal Payroll System

Just a reminder that the Hawai‘i Pay direct deposit enrollment period starts Monday, December 3, 2018, at 7:45am.

Note:  The Kapi‘olani Community College HR Office will be offering enrollment drive sessions for anyone requiring assistance.  Click on links below to register.

Aloha to all Kapi‘olani Community College faculty, staff, and student employees!

As you have heard, the State of Hawai’i is transitioning to direct deposit enrollment through the new State payroll system, Hawai’i Information Portal, or “HIP” that will come with Automated Clearinghouse (“ACH”) direct deposit. The new system will allow employees to manage their direct deposit choices online. Between 12/03/18 7:45am and 12/14/18 5:00pm, all UH employees will need to logon to HIP to enroll in direct deposit.  This special enrollment window is to ensure that UH employees continue to have their net pay directly deposited in their financial institution’s account(s).  As long as employees act during this window, it will prevent the State from having to issue UH employees paper paychecks and maintain their direct deposits starting on 01/04/19.

Please note that enrollment in direct deposit through HIP is required even if the employee is currently signed up for direct deposit. Employees who enroll in direct deposit during the enrollment period will have their current direct deposit transfer to HIP seamless.

As was indicated in the Friday, 11/09/18, UH Announce email, employees will be required to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your UH Account and will not be able to access HIP without completing this step.  To assist in completing this step, we have created instructions on how to set-up MFA.  Please refer to the “Duo Set-up Instructions” document attached below.  Although the UH Announce email indicated this must be completed by 11/30/18, employees may continue to enroll in MFA during the direct deposit enrollment period (12/03/18 through 12/14/18)

Refer to the following link for more information on Hawai‘i Pay. Additionally, you can click on the “UH employee page” link in the following link for information specific to UH:

http://ags.hawaii.gov/hawaiipay/for-employees/

The links below provide detailed instructions for use in December, related to HiPay direct deposit through Employee Self Service (ESS). These materials provide step-by-step instruction in setting up a bank account, or accounts, for direct deposit.

As this is a self service portal, employees are able to utilize the instructions above to sign-up on their own for HIP, between 12/03/18 7:45am and 12/14/18 5:00pm.

Additionally, the Kapi‘olani Community College, Human Resources Office, will be conducting enrollment drives with computer workstations available, to assist any employee who may need extra help with the direct deposit process.  The HIP enrollment drive will be held in Lama 118, during the following dates and times, click on the “X” below to sign-up for a respective time slot:
