The UH System has provided a Teaching Online During an Emergency site, which includes links to a checklist for moving instruction online and links to mini virtual training sessions. We encourage you to take advantage of these resources.

Many of you are using Zoom to continue to meet with your classes. Just recently, Zoom announced extra support during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you’re a new Zoom user, these resources are super helpful.

Finally, check out our TLC Support Resources page. Here, you’ll find helpful links to resources, including video tutorials on how to use various tools in Laulima. You’ll also find a list of experienced DE colleagues who are available to help you.

Zoombombing

Aloha Kapi‘olani Zoom users,

As you may notice, Zoom (a web-conferencing tool) has set your sharing settings to Host Only by default in response to the ‘Zoombombing‘ issue.

If you want to maintain the “safeguard mechanism” put in place by Zoom lately and also enable your meeting guests to share their screens as needed, you could manually adjust the sharing option inside a meeting with your Host privilege on a meeting-by-meeting basis. Check out how to adjust the sharing option inside a Zoom meeting.

If Zoombombing may not be presented as a concern for your context at this point, there is a way to revert back to “Allow all participants to share” in your Zoom Settings for a long-term run. Check out how to adjust the sharing option in my Zoom setting page.

For additional suggestions on how to prevent or manage Zoombombing, see How to Keep the Party Crashers from Crashing Your Zoom Event (Zoom Blog).

For more tips and resources on how to establish Zoom netiquette and have a successful synchronous experience, please reference the Zoom section of Student Success in Learning Remotely (page 5).

Questions? Contact celtt@hawaii.edu or drop in our TLC support meeting room via Zoom this week at 12-3pm.

Stay safe and healthy!
