April eWaste – Completed

The April eWaste program has been completed. Kapiolani Community College submitted 15 pallets of eWaste to be safely recycled or disposed. Thank you all for your participation in this event.

As a reminder, the new process is an ongoing collection of eWaste items. This change has been successful in preventing storage of items in areas utilized by Faculty and Staff.

If you do have items for eWaste, please submit a support ticket to our Resolve website https://resolve.kapiolani.hawaii.edu/. CELTT team members will work with you to retrieve the items directly from the location, prepare accordingly and store them until the next pickup.

Special thanks to the Auxiliary Services Department for their continued partnership with CELTT in the preparation of the campus eWaste.

Our next scheduled eWaste pickup will be in July.

Nepal Earthquake Relief

“Action with Compassion: Share Your Heart with Nepalese Flute”
Performed by Ram B. Kumar and Dr. Anna Sitrr

Students of the Kapi‘olani Community College International Café, Intercultural Service Learning Pathway are coordinating a Nepal Earthquake Relief program, “Action with Compassion: Share Your Heart with Nepalese Flute” performed by Ram B. Kumar and Dr. Anna Sitrr. The program will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from Noon – 3 p.m. at Kapi‘olani CC Cafeteria Entry Way.

KCC students of the International Café, the national award winning intercultural service learning pathway, will coordinate the making and signing of the Boy’s Day Carp, Koinobori, which will be sent to Nepal with the donation.

Proceeds will go directly to the American Nepal Medical Foundation. One hundred per cent will go to those in need. The American Nepal Medical Foundation is an organization run by Nepali doctors working in the United States and some of their American colleagues. The group has been working in Nepal since 1976 and has a positive reputation for providing aid. Members of the organization are working together with Real Medical Foundation to get supplies sent to Nepal. They just received a customs exemption for their shipments from the Nepal government. The combined efforts of these organizations will be efficient and effective. Take action with compassion.

Changes @ CELTT

May 1, 2015, will be a significant day at the Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Technology. We will be welcoming a new faculty member, Helen Torigoe, who was most recently at Hawai‘i CC. Helen will be responsible for professional development as it relates to technology and will assist colleagues with instructional design for integrating technology. That same day will be Mary Hattori’s last day at CELTT and at KCC. She will be taking on a new position as Outreach Coordinator at UHM’s Center for Pacific Island Studies. Under Mary’s leadership, CELTT has helped the campus make great strides in technology support for both instruction and administration. Thank you, Mary, for all your contributions to the growth of “ELTT” on the campus. Effective May 4, 2015, Karl Naito will be the unit head for CELTT. Karl is no stranger to the responsibilities and, with your continued support, will build upon CELTT’s successes.

Denim Day 2015

There were issues with the last post so we’re re-sending as a reminder:

The month of April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the United States.  In our observation of Denim Day and the RESPECT campaign, the campus Violence and Prevention Task Force invites all members of the campus community to wear a white shirt and denim on Wednesday, April 29 in support of rape prevention and the reduction of sexual violence.

There will be flags on the great lawn representing nationwide statistics of sexual assault of a population equal to our campus student body. Take a picture next to a sign around campus and hashtag #KCCDENIMDAY to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.  Come learn more outside the Ohi`a Cafeteria from 10am-1pm.
