Awoha Friday.

Happy a-WO-ha Friday! 🤙 Don’t forget to apply…

The Wo Learning Champions is a professional development experience focused on community building, innovation, and leadership that spans the UHCC system. Two people from each campus are selected to create a 14-member strong generation of Wos who work together over the course of a year and a half.

Each month during the 3-semester commitment, you will visit a different UHCC whose Wo reps will coordinate a day of sharing some of the amazing learning opportunities and initiatives that make their campus unique. At least once (twice if you like!), you will host the Wos at Kapi‘olani CC and plan experiences that highlight our amazing staff, faculty and students and the work we do here. In addition to learning about what makes our UHCCs so special, you will plan and execute initiatives, including completing a cohort project, coordinate awards, volunteer and serve at HISSI, and foster long-lasting connections with your fellow Wos. To get a glimpse into the Wo experience, please visit our blog: Wo Learning Champions

This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with inspiring and dedicated colleagues, develop new skills, and witness first-hand the various ways our campuses are succeeding while contributing to the success of our UH community college system.

Applications are due by 11:55pm on Saturday, March 7:

Questions? Please don’t hesitate to contact Jamie (jsickel@hawaii.edu) and/or Jackie at (lindoj@hawaii.edu) – we will be more than happy to share our experience with you.

About the Program
The Teaching Online Prep Program (TOPP) is a two-time national award-winning professional development program that prepares faculty to develop and facilitate a high-quality online class. During the intensive 6-week session, you’ll learn about effective online pedagogy and current state, federal and ACCJC requirements for online classes, practice maximizing key Laulima and Web 2.0 tools, and begin developing your online class site in a supportive community of practice.

Schedule: Two summer cohorts of TOPP will be offered online this summer (you can indicate your cohort preference in the application):

  • Summer 1: May 26 – July 3
  • Summer 2: July 6 – August 14

Eligibility: Individuals teaching online for the first time or experienced online teachers interested in teaching a new online class or revising one may apply. There are a limited number of seats in the cohort – selection into TOPP will depend on meeting the eligibility criteria and the priority of your course. Please be aware that this is an intensive online course that requires a significant time commitment – it is not advisable to enroll in TOPP while teaching a summer class.

APPLY HERE: by Monday, March 30 at 11:55pm.

Questions? For more information about TOPP or the application process, please contact an instructional designer:
Jamie Sickel (jsickel@hawaii.edu) – Summer I facilitator
Youxin Zhang (youxin@hawaii.edu) & Helen Torigoe (htorigoe@hawaii.edu) – Summer II facilitators

SPOTLIGHT Online Teaching Session CANCELED Fri 2/28

Unfortunately, due to schedule conflicts, we were unable to gather together enough presenters for this Friday’s SPOTLIGHT Online Teaching Tour of Online Classes: Languages session. It has therefore been canceled. The session was originally scheduled for Friday 2/28 at 1:00 – 2:30 pm in Lama 116.

But the remaining sessions for the semester are still a “go!”

Last semester, the SPOTLIGHT: Online Teaching Workshops Series focused on giving folks glimpses into online classes in various disciplines. We started with online English & Communication classes, went on to online Science classes (including labs!), and rounded out the semester with online Math classes. This worked so well that we’re devoting another semester to the Tour of Online Classes. This semester, we’ll focus on:

  • Online OR Hybrid Health Sciences Classes (Friday, March 27 at 1:00 – 2:30 pm in Lama 116)
  • Online Business, Legal, and Technology Classes (Friday, April 24 at 1:00 – 2:30 pm in Lama 116)

Please contact Leigh Dooley ldooley@hawaii.edu for more information.
