Screening Kumu Hina: Venue changed to Ohia 118

Due to interest from instructors and students, Kumu Hina and the panel discussion will be at Ohia 118

Celebrate the start of Diversity Month on April 1, 11:30-1:00pm with the award winning documentary screening of Kumu Hina. This is followed by a panel discussion with faculty, students, and Kumu Hina Team, led by Maiana Minahal, on April 1, 1:00-1:45pm.

Kumu Hina is told through the lens of Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, an extraordinary Native Hawaiian who is both a proud and confident māhū (transgender woman) and an honored and respected kumu (teacher) and community leader. The documentary focuses on her struggle to maintain Pacific Islander culture in the midst of a modern day Hawaiʻi influenced by Western values. Panel discussion with students and Kumu Hina Producer and Director, led by Maiana Minahal. Refreshment provided. More information: http://kumuhina.com/

Reminder: April 6 Blood Drive — Please donate!

The Bloodmobile will be on campus next Monday, April 6, for an emergency blood drive.  From 10AM to 1PM, behind the Ohia Building.

At this moment, our state is in critical need of blood which is O+ (giving blood is a great way for you to find out your blood type!).  O+ is the universal blood for all positive blood types and can be received by patients who have type A+, B+, AB+ and O+ blood.

On-campus blood drives are a convenient way for you to donate and help support all those who are in need of blood transfusions, be it a cancer patient, an accident victim, a person undergoing surgery, and others.  Help save lives!  Donate blood.

Please see the event posting on the KCC Calendar for more information about the blood drive and how to prepare for your donation.

To schedule an appointment, you can contact the Service & Sustainability Learning Program at 734-9353 or ServiceLearning.HPT@gmail.com OR contact the Blood Bank directly at 848-4770 or go to BBH.org (and view the live schedule).

The UH System Strategic Directions were approved by the Board of Regents at their meeting on February 19, 2015. The UH Community Colleges (UHCC) Strategic Directions were finalized at their March 13, 2015 meeting. Kapi‘olani CC must align our strategic plan with the UH system and the UHCC strategic plans. A group of Kapi‘olani CC volunteers have been meeting monthly in the spring to finalize the College’s Strategic Plan. Your input at this open forum is invaluable as we complete this process.
