Reminder: SLO Friday featuring SLO Book Club

Please join us this Friday, Nov 3 for the SLO Book Club.

In lieu of a book, this semester we will be reading freely-available articles on student learning. This week’s article discusses research on the relative impacts of different teaching interventions. Read the article, The Applicability of Visible Learning to Higher Education, and join us on Nov 3 for a rich conversation!

New Media Arts Showcase November 28th, 2017.

The Board of Student Publications (BOSP) is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting a New Media Arts (NMA) event to showcase the first year students talents and their work.

Have you heard of our NMA Program? Are you interested in seeing what type of projects our students complete within the first year? Well here is your chance.
The BOSP will be hosting this event on Nov. 28th 2017, in the ‘Iliahi building, Rm: 123 A,B,C.

Come join us for a fun and free event, with food, snacks, and refreshments, alongside the great art provided by KCC’s very own NMA students.

KRSP Pre-Submission Workshop

Want to submit a proposal for the Kapi‘olani Research Scholars Project  but not sure how to get started? Looking for some folks to form a team with?

Come to our pre-submission workshops led by Christyna Serrano, Institutional Researcher at OFIE. Find potential team members, learn what makes a good research question, discuss appropriate methods of collecting and analyzing data, and more. Workshops will be held:

  • Friday Nov 3, 3:00 – 4:30 pm @ Naio 203
  • Monday Nov 6, 2:00 – 3:30 pm @ Naio 203
  • Tuesday Nov 7, 10:00 – 11:30 am @ Naio 203

Project details and a proposal submission form can be downloaded here. Proposals are due November 10, 2017.

The Kapi‘olani Research Scholars Project (KRSP) provides support for research teams (faculty, professional staff, or both) to explore a student learning research project that attracts their interest. Project support includes assistance with planning the project, analyzing the data collected, publishing and presenting the results, and a stipend. This is a great opportunity to take a deeper dive into an aspect of student learning that piques your curiosity.

FocusCareer2 Class Assignment Interpretation Workshop

Did you give your students a class assignment to complete Focus2Career Assessments? Since August 2017, another 500 students signed up for Focus2Career—Career, Major & Educational Planning System. Several of them indicated that they were completing it for a class assignment.

On Thursday, November 2, at 12:15 in Lama 118, the Maida Kamber Center will conduct an interpretation session for those students who did not have the opportunity to meet individually with a counselor. Student will receive assistance in finding a pathway or major and guidance in selecting relevant classes for Spring 2018.
