Screening Kumu Hina: Venue changed to Ohia 118

Due to interest from instructors and students, Kumu Hina and the panel discussion will be at Ohia 118

Celebrate the start of Diversity Month on April 1, 11:30-1:00pm with the award winning documentary screening of Kumu Hina. This is followed by a panel discussion with faculty, students, and Kumu Hina Team, led by Maiana Minahal, on April 1, 1:00-1:45pm.

Kumu Hina is told through the lens of Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, an extraordinary Native Hawaiian who is both a proud and confident māhū (transgender woman) and an honored and respected kumu (teacher) and community leader. The documentary focuses on her struggle to maintain Pacific Islander culture in the midst of a modern day Hawaiʻi influenced by Western values.
