As the first year of the 2-year pilot of the Administrative Leadership Feedback System draws to a close, the ALFS Pilot Implementation Team would like to extend a big MAHALO to everyone who participated.
This includes:
- the fabulous team at OFIE, especially Roger Reed, who administered the survey and analyzed results, and Shaun Kiyabu and Bob Franco, who advised us on survey procedures;
- the amazing team at CELTT, especially Karl Naito, who sent survey communications out to a campus list-serve, and Lance Akana and Jessica Lum, who offered tech support for the Annual Update;
- the limitless Culinary Arts Department, especially Ron Takahashi and Jessica Tabrah, who were instrumental in selecting a location for the Annual Update Event, setting up, and arranging for our delicious pupu;
- the incomparable Keith Kashiwada, who MC’d the Annual Update Event;
- the phenomenal AGOs, Department Chairs, Unit Heads, and CAAC Chairs, who helped spread the word to their members;
- ALL the members of the Faculty Senate and the Faculty Senate Evaluations Committee over the past 10 years, who helped shape the ALFS, and reshape it, and reshape it again;
- our campus administrators, who served as willing guinea pigs and who stepped up to do difficult work when it mattered; and
- everyone who filled out a Feedback Survey or who attended the Annual Update Event.
We know all of this takes time and effort—we believe it was time and effort well-spent.
The System was in development for 10 long years, and it’s so satisfying to see this grass-roots initiative finally begin to be implemented. From its inception, the purpose of the ALFS was to promote a sense of collegiality and equality between staff, faculty, and administrators, to improve transparency, and to facilitate greater understanding and appreciation of the ways in which staff, faculty, and administrators contribute to the success of the college. And, of course, to facilitate constant campus improvement in a way that captures and honors the voices of all staff and faculty.
We have never wavered from this vision, and this year we took the first steps towards making it a reality.
Thanks to YOU!
With gratitude, Margaret Barone, LeeAnn DeMello, Leigh Dooley, Alissa Kashiwada, Amy Shiroma, Jill Wakabayashi, and Susan Weber: the ALFS Pilot Implementation Team
