Title III Kūkalahale Prof Dev Opportunity – 2022-2023

Aloha nui kākou,

The E Hoʻi Nā Wai Indigenous Education Professional Learning Program is now recruiting for new members for the 2022-2023 academic year!
He aha ia mea ʻo E Hoʻi Nā Wai – What is E Hoʻi Nā Wai?

E Hoʻi Nā Wai is a one-year, Professional Development program that is funded through a Title III collaborative grant between Honolulu Community College and Kapiʻolani Community College, named Kūkalahale: Building an Indigenous-Serving Institution through Professional Development. The overarching theme of this collaborative project is indigenous education frameworks in professional development. The goals of this project are: 1) To increase HonCC and KapCC’s capacity to implement indigenous education frameworks and to support student success on each campus; and 2) To increase access to training on indigenous education methodologies to other campuses in support of the University of Hawaii’s mission to become a model indigenous-serving institution.

E Hoʻi Nā Wai is built upon the solid foundation of the Hoʻāla Hou Culture & Place-Based Professional Development program that was implemented at Honolulu Community College. Like the Hoʻāla Hou professional learning program, E Hoʻi Nā Wai will expand the ala ʻike from ʻike pilina (relationships with one another), ʻike honua (relationships to places)  and ʻike pīkoʻu (personal growth and development) and explore additional ala ʻike from the Nā Honua Mauli Ola educational framework.

Participation in this year’s cohort will also include in-person huakaʻi, or field trips, and face-to-face meetings.
