WiPC:E 2014 Conference Next Week

From May 20 to May 24, Kapiʻolani Community College will be hosting the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education. Every three years, indigenous educators from throughout the world gather to discuss challenges, successes, and best practices about indigenous learners. Approximately 2,500 educators will convene at Kapiʻolani Community College.

Please note: There will be parking restrictions and elevated activity on campus. We do ask your kōkua in welcoming our guests from around the world.

Here is the week’s schedule:

Tuesday, May 20 – Friday, May 23
Shuttle buses will run between Waikiki and Kapiʻolani CC from 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. daily. Shuttle buses will enter from Kilauea Avenue and exit on Diamond Head Road.

On Friday, there will be separate meetings/workshops for men and women (`Aha Kane/`Aha Wahine). We ask that you please respect their boundaries if you are in their vicinity.

On Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Iliahi building, the Native Market will be open. There you may purchase Indigenous crafts, talk with Indigenous crafters, watch an Indigenous film, or enjoy some Indigenous music. The Native Market is open to the public.

Campus Wireless Network: The entire wireless network on Campus will be changed to accommodate the participants during the conference. The temporary network name will be “wipce2014.” No login ID or Password will be required. If prompted to choose a wireless network, choose “wipce2014.” The wireless network will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily during the conference. The Campus wireless network will return to normal once the conference is over.

Heavy Network and Internet Traffic Advisory: It is expected that due to the large number of participants, the network traffic will be heavy. This means there could be a slowdown in network services. Any use of the Internet could be affected. Please anticipate and plan accordingly.
