2014 Commencement this Friday

Aloha Kakou:

Kapi`olani CC’s 2014 Commencement Exercise is scheduled for this Friday, May 16 on the Great Lawn. Please come and help celebrate this milestone with our graduates.

We anticipate many visitors and we therefore need to cordon off the parking areas behind `Ohi`a, `Ohelo and `Ilima Buildings for our special guests and performers. Campus Security will be placing barriers to these entry/exit points so we are asking that you NOT park in these lots after 12noon on Friday.

Thank you for your understanding.

Calling all Kaimuki HS Grads!

KCC has been actively working to increase its support of students at Kaimuki High School. We’re now offering KCC classes there to their best and brightest students to enhance the opportunities available at Kaimuki and to provide a foot in the door to college. We plan to host an informal afternoon gathering at Kaimuki HS *just* for KHS graduates so that you can return home, meet the new leadership team at KHS, and hear about some of the great partnership activities that we’ve put into place. If you graduated from Kaimuki HS and are interested in learning more about your alma mater, please provide your name, email address, and phone number to Colette Higgins at chiggins@hawaii.edu!

The Office of Student Activities is pleased to announce that the 4th Eisa Drum Festival will be held on Saturday, May 17th on the Great Lawn of KCC. Food sales begin at 4:30 pm. Program runs from 6 pm to 9 pm. Event is free and open to students and the public. Alcohol is strictly prohibited. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening under stars!

More information at: https://www.facebook.com/eisahawaii

Eisa is a form of dance and drumming unique to the people of Okinawa. It is an exhilarating combination of singing, chanting, dancing, and drumming. It originally had an important religious function of giving repose to the dead. In Okinawa and Hawaii, Eisa continues to be performed at Bon Dances. Today, some groups do traditional dances, while others experiment with contemporary styles. This year, we will showcase both traditional and contemporary styles of drumming, with the added bonus of karate and lions.

  • Enroll in EUTF COBRA Continuation Health Coverage
  • Purchase health coverage through individual health providers (e.g., HMSA, Kaiser, etc), or
  • Purchase an individual plan through the Hawai‘i Health Connector.
Additional information may be found on the Hawai‘i Health Connector website at http://www.hawaiihealthconnector.com/, or by contacting the Health Connector Consumer Support at 877-628-5076 or individual health providers.  Individuals may also contact the EUTF for COBRA information at 586-7390 (Oahu) or toll free at 1-800-295-0089, or by e-mailing questions to eutf@hawaii.gov.
