Congratulations to Yimin Yuan, summer intern at CREATE program!

Yimin Yuan was the only ESL and community college student to participate in the CREATE (Cancer, Research Education, Advancement, Training and Empowerment) 2022 Summer internship program through the University of Hawai`i Cancer Center. Other KCC STEM students are strongly recommended to participate in future semesters!

Yimin created a poster presentation looking at obesity characteristics in children and the link to cancer causation. She is currently majoring in the Associate of Science in Natural Science, Engineering degree at KCC and will transfer to the University of Hawai`i at Manoa to major in Biological Engineering in the Spring semester. Congratulations on this distinctive honor, Yimin!!!

As part of this workshop we will learn more about the purpose of safe zones on campus for the LGBTQ+ community, nuanced definitions, identifying microaggressions, how to be an ally/advocate and gender/attraction fluidity.

Safe Zone is a UH system curriculum and workshop on LGBTQ+ʻʻ issues, which helps faculty and staff to create a more welcoming and supportive campus for our LGBTQ+ students and community. At the end of the training, participants can identify as allies and/or advocates, and get posters and stickers to increase visibility for students and the campus community that we’ve gotten training on LGBTQ+ issues.
