State of Hawai‘i Employees’ Benefits Fairs

Aloha,

The Island Savings Plan is hosting an Employees’ Benefits Fair this month.

DATE:     Monday, May 18, 2015
TIME:      9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
PLACE:   Harbor View Center located at Pier 38 (above Nico’s)
1129 N. Nimitz Highway

 

Sponsored by the State of Hawai‘i Deferred Compensation Plan/Island Savings Plan, the benefits fair provides a great opportunity for employees to learn about the Island Savings Plan (ISP) supplemental retirement plan as well as other employee benefits.  Employees will be able to receive one-on-one assistance from ISP counselors and learn about ISP investment options.  The ISP plan’s investment fund providers and other benefit plan representatives will be available to answer your questions.

The Governor has approved State employee’s use of up to two (2) hours of work time (which includes travel time) to attend ONE (1) fair this calendar year.  Please ensure you receive authorization from your supervisor prior to attending the benefits fair.

2015 Pre-Tax Transportation Benefit Pilot Program Open Enrollment

The message below is applicable to O‘ahu employees only.

The 2015 Open Enrollment period for the State of Hawaii Pre-Tax Transportation Benefit Pilot Program (PTBP) is May 4, 2015 through June 22, 2015 for the August 2015 bus pass.  During open enrollment, employees may enroll in the program to purchase monthly bus passes through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis, thereby saving on FICA, Federal and State income taxes.

NOTE:  Employees already enrolled in the bus pass program need not re-enroll each year.  Participation will continue in the program unless the employee requests a cancellation. Enrollment for Handi-Van and vRide may be submitted any time during the year.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Member of the State of Hawai‘i Employees’ Retirement System
  • Live and work on O‘ahu, and
  • Do not have other pre-tax transportation benefit payroll deduction (i.e., parking in a University-controlled lot, handi-van, vRide or senior / disability annual pass).

Employees enrolled during open enrollment will begin their payroll deduction on July 20, 2015 for the August 2015 bus pass.

C4ward Concierge Training THIS SUMMER

It’s time for a change on campus…and we need you to help make it happen. Join us for the FREE Concierge Training for C4wards.

  • Monday – Thursday, August 10 – 13, 2015
  • 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Kapi’olani Community College campus (specific location TBA)

If you choose to be a C4ward concierge (no obligation),  you will facilitate small groups of colleagues as they work collaboratively to explore their passions and improve their practice.

At the C4ward Concierge Training, you will:

  • Learn about the C4ward model and Communities of Practice pedagogy
  • Learn about and practice mediation techniques, listening skills, and creative facilitation techniques
  • Learn about C4ward Assessment Strategies
  • Eat lovely free lunches

As a trained concierge, you will be eligible to:

  • Provide valued campus leadership and service
  • When opportunities arise, receive concierge incentives (such as when serving as a HiP concierge)
  • Become an agent of positive change

Celebrate Service-Learning!

The Service & Sustainability Learning Program team invites you to join us and students who completed service-learning during this 2014-15 academic year for a ho’ike and celebration of their service to the community.

HiP C4wards provide monetary & social support

High-impact Practice (HiP) C4wards are a rich Professional Development opportunity for instructional faculty. Choose one of the 2015 HiPs and apply to participate:

  • Cornerstone Projects
  • Culture-Based Learning
  • Flipped Classroom
  • Moenaha

Join a cohort of approximately 5 faculty interested in the same HiP and work together towards implementation of that HiP in Fall 2015. You’ll get:

  • support as you explore and implement a practice that can make a difference for your students
  • $5000 mini-grant (per group) for supplies, professional development, and/or technology related to the implementation of the HiP
  • a concierge/facilitator

Student Success Coaching Workshop for ALL — THURSDAY

Behind very successful student is someone who helped them believe they could be successful.  In a period when college retention is receiving increased interest, the evidence-based practice of academic coaching can lead to engagement, learning, retention, and an increased probability of completing a degree. Learn ways and strategies to work collaboratively with students to guide them throughout their college experience and assist them in realizing that a college degree is achievable with Honolulu Community College’s Retention Specialist, Ina Miller-Cabasug and Kapi’olani Community College’s C3T Academic Coach, Todd Rentz.   THIS Thursday, May 7, 2014 from 1pm to 4pm in the Kahikoluamea Center they will be sharing coaching techniques with all who work with students.  Faculty, staff and administrators are all warmly invited to attend.
