International Films at KCC presents Introspective of Japanese Director Makoto Shinkai

(Part of the KCC International Education Week)

November 15, 2015  Tuesday  6:00pm to 8:30pm at Manono 104

Introspective of the works of the famed Japanese film director Makoto Shinkai.  Director Shinkai is often called the “next Hayao Miyazaki”of the Japanese Anime industry.  His current hit Japanese anime film “Your Name” has taken Japan like a storm and is now considered a cultural phenomenon!

International Films at KCC will be presenting Director Shinkai’s earlier works as an introspective look of a very talented Anime director in a cross-cultural perspective as part of the Kapi’olani Community College International Education Week. Introduction discussion will precede before the showing of both films.

The Films that will be shown and discussed are:

“5 Centimeters per second: A chain of short stories about their distance” – Tale of love, coming of age, and eventual loss due to distance told in three interconnected stories.  (2007, 1 hour 15 minutes)

“Garden of Words” –  Timeless story of romance, urban loneliness, and redemption told through modern animation and use of  Japanese classical poetry book “Man’yōshū” as a motif” (2013, 1 hour)

Both films are english subtitled.
