Save the Date: VIRTUAL Student Undergraduate Research Fair (SURF) 5/5 – 5/7

It’s that time of the semester! Please join us in celebrating our KapCC students and the work they have accomplished in the past few months. We are especially excited to feature students in the Sustainability Certificate Showcase for the first time!

Spring 2020 Student Undergraduate Research Fair (SURF)
Online presentations via Google Meet
Tuesday, May 5 to Thursday, May 7
Tues & Wed – 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Thurs – 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

We are embracing growth mindset by featuring research-in-progress presentations and experimenting with our first virtual conference! We’re hoping that SURF will be a casual space where faculty, staff, and students can share ideas and learn from each other.

Did you know that KapCC students:

  • Pulled 32,982 lbs of invasive algae in Maunalua bay over the past 10 years, contributing to a 25% increase in native algae species.
  • Investigated ways to reduce fuel consumption and increase the viability of alternative energy sources.
  • Monitored the Manu-o-ku bird on our campus and found that there may be predators nearby.
  • Found a potential way to reduce the likelihood of community college faculty and staff falling for phishing attempts.

Feel free to just pop in for a few minutes and check out a student’s presentation.  Students get really excited when people come and ask questions!

Instructions on how to attend and a program will be posted here shortly. Contact Li-Anne Delavega at ldelaveg@hawaii.edu for questions.
