Laulima Reminders & Workshops

LAULIMA DOWNTIME

Laulima will be down on Sunday, Jan 20th from 6 AM to 10 AM for system patches and updates. Please remind your students. Note that the Chat Tool refresh issue will be addressed in this update.

Signup for TOPP Summer 2017 by May 5th

Summer is a perfect time to develop or recharge your teaching online skills!  

CELTT will be offering another six-week Teaching Online Prep Program (TOPP) this summer.  It is scheduled to run from May 22nd to June 30th.  Please join us and build your online course while learning and collaborating online!

During the six weeks we will cover:

  1. Regulations and best practices
  2. Planning & design
  3. Laulima
  4. Web tools
  5. Assessment & Evaluation
  6. Facilitation

Go to the Ohana site (https://ohana.kapiolani.hawaii.edu/topp-summer-2017/) for more information, and sign up by Friday, May 5th.

You will be asked to identify a course that you plan to develop and to provide a course outline.

Have other plans during the summer? You have two options:

  • Enroll in TOSP – the self-paced version of TOPP and learn at your own pace.
  • Watch for announcements and sign up for the fall 2017 session.

There are free online webinars Monday – Friday, many by and for community colleges, in topics ranging from the very basics of OER through the more advanced digital libraries and zero-textbook cost degrees. Research has shown that faculty adopting free and low cost course materials instead of $150+ textbooks is one of the ways that we can make a difference in closing the equity achievement gap.

The Screencasting Workshop is back at CELTT!

The hands-on Screencast-o-matic Workshop is back!

Want to improve your online or hybrid course with tutorial videos for your students but don’t know where to start?

Screencasting is the process of capturing activities on the screen, optionally combined with audio input. Studies have found that students see videos to be a helpful learning tool and often use videos as tutoring resources.  Students also demonstrate improved learning when their learning process is supplemented with video lectures.*

In this hands-on workshop, we will play with Screencast-o-matic, a FREE and easy-to-use screencasting tool anyone can use to create short screen recordings for your course.  You will create a screenrecorded video for your course that can be published online or downloaded as an mp4 file, and embedded into Laulima.  We will also briefly demonstrate how to add captioning.

Due to the hands-on nature of this workshop, seats are limited to 10 participants each day.
Please bring your own headset with a mic if you have one.
