Paid Summer Internship with Democracy Works!

Location: Remote within the US

Democracy Works is looking to hire five interns for summer 2021.  They are a non-partisan, non -profit organization committed to helping Americans vote. By building easy-to-use tools for voters, uplifting comprehensive data for elections, and providing vital support for election officials, Democracy Works is actively making voting more accessible across the country.  One tool they developed is TurboVote, an online registration tool that Kapi‘olani Community College uses in our annual voter registration drive.

PeopleSoft 9.2 – Employee Self Service

The University of Hawaii has officially implemented PeopleSoft 9.2 effective February 22, 2021. PeopleSoft (ver 9.2) is the human resources management system used by the University of Hawai‘i and this system will be used by employees to look for personal as well as work-related information. All the employee of the University of Hawaii will have access to Employee Self Service (ESS) portal.

With ESS, you will be able to do the following tasks*:

  • View Personal Details
    • View home and mailing addresses
    • View contact number
    • View/Add email address
    • View marital status
    • Add a preferred name
  • View Business Phone and Address
  • View Employee Change Summary
    • View changes made to your Job Data record
    • Access Payroll Notification Form (PNF) and Form 6
    • View UH Directory
  • Direct link to OHR intranet and Hawaii Information Portal (HIP)
    (*For detailed information, please view the ESS manual attached at the end of this post)

PeopleSoft 9.2 can be accessed through ps.hawaii.edu (UH username and password is required and you must be on the UH Network or connected to the UH VPN). Each employee is requested to login to PeopleSoft 9.2 and report if you find any discrepancies. To report, please click here.

Important note: Effective February 22, 2021, hard copies or electronic copies of PNF and Form 6 will no longer be sent to the employee as you will be able to access them through PeopleSoft 9.2. (For information on how to access PNF, please view the ESS manual attached at the end of this post)

Student Undergraduate Research Fair (SURF) Registration is Now Open!

Have students who are doing research, a project, or creative work? Or already have end-of-the-semester presentations? Consider showcasing their work at our casual, biannual student conference, SURF. We welcome all forms of research from any discipline at any stage: proposals or literature reviews are a great way for your students to engage in professional development and prep for future opportunities.

All disciplines and presentations formats welcome

Format: SURF will be the same as 2020

  • SURF is a drop-in, synchronous event. Your students will present multiple times throughout their allotted time like a F2F conference. Presentations are usually an hour, but longer presentations are accepted.
  • Students must submit a 1- to 5-min video summary in addition to the poster/other presentation materials. 
  • You can find poster templates, logos, guides, and conference info on our website: https://kapcc-research.wixsite.com/surf. We will be adding more content as the conference gets closer.

Registration:

  • Please let us know your presentation times and the number of student presentations by Wednesday, March 10. Wild estimations are accepted, so please register even if you’re not sure if youʻll participate as it’s easier for us to downscale. Register here.

WALK-A-THON: Friday, February 26, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Great Lawn

Come and join the Board of Student Activities (BOSA) on campus for a fun, socially-distanced Walk-A-Thon! 

This event is dedicated to spreading knowledge about Cancer Awareness Month. We will have a competition for prizes for individuals with the most steps walked, fun games set up on the Great Lawn, info tables with several organizations, and lots of snacks. There will also be a station dedicated to making cards for essential workers during COVID as well as to support the kupuna community. Bring water, wear a facial covering, and get ready to walk! We hope to see you there!

Health educators, nonprofit administrators, community advocates, case workers, data analysts and others are contributing to a holistic continuum of care aimed at helping all patients live longer, more active and healthier lives.

Join faculty, students, and alumni of the Kapi’olani Community College Community Health Worker Program and Chaminade University’s Bachelors of Science in Community & Public Health as they discuss how important and impactful these programs are to improving the health of the people of Hawai’i.
