Grant Funding Available for Diversity Projects – Spring 2022 applications due Friday, Feb 4th

The University of Hawaii SEED Office is accepting applications for seed grants through its SEED Initiatives for Diversity, Equity, Access, and Success. (IDEAS) program.  Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to apply for an IDEAS award to fund program activities promoting diversity awareness. Individual projects. The grant funds (up to $5,000) may be used as follows:

  • Allowable costs: honorarium for speakers or performers, materials and supplies (items costing less than $5,000), travel fees to bring out-of-state speakers to Hawaii, lodging, printing and supply costs, equipment rental, venue rental, administrative support to initiate the project.
  • Not allowable costs: food, UH faculty overload, leis, travel outside of the state for faculty, students or staff, computers, digital cameras, printers.

Tip #1 – Include the # of Kapi‘olani students that will benefit from the project. These grant funds are provided through student fees and should therefore benefit students directly (i.e., the target audience should not be only community members)

Funding requests should be well supported by data on the specific number of students who will benefit from the project. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Office of Institutional Effectiveness for data on the number of students the proposed project will support. Institutional reports and other useful information is available at the OFIE website – https://www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu/ofie/

Tip #2 – Contact your department chair if you’re interested in applying.

Internal reviews are recommended to be completed by next Tuesday, February 1st, to allow for enough time for the required signatures from your department chair/dean and the fiscal officer.

Tip #3 – Partner with other UHCC campuses to maximize your impact.

IDEAS Award reviewers appreciate proposals that have a maximum impact on students. Consider partnering with colleagues at other campuses if collaborative activities align with your proposed project.

Interested in applying? Be sure to complete both the PDF application form and the Google Form linked below.

An internal deadline of next Tuesday, February 1st, is recommended to allow for enough time for the required signatures from your department chair/dean and the fiscal officer.

STEM Peer Mentoring Available Online for Spring 2022

Please share with your students!

Start off the semester with the support you need to succeed in your classes. ✨

Although the STEM Center is still currently closed for in-person services, all of our peer mentors are available to help you online. They can assist you with courses in biology, botany, chemistry, computer science, math, and physics.

You also don’t need to come in with a question. Feel free to pop into a peer mentor’s session and say hello. They can talk to you about courses they have taken or opportunities that you might be interested in. It can be lonely with most courses online, so stop by and meet another STEM student!

Go to kccstem.com/peer-mentoring to find peer mentors’ schedules and to join a session. You don’t need an appointment—drop in any time during their scheduled hours.

How to Access STEM Peer Mentoring:

  • Log in to your UH email account
  • Find the peer mentors’ schedules on our website
  • Select the schedule based on the subject you need help with
  • Click on a mentor’s name and desired time slot and open “more details”
  • The schedule will bring you to Google Calendar event
  • Join a Google Meet session with your mentor

🤔  Still not sure how to find help? Watch this 2-minute video that walks you through getting into your session.

Check out kccstem.com for resources, support, and to get connected, and follow us on Instagram @kccstem for more information about opportunities and exciting events that are coming up soon.
